KARATE FOR CHILDREN | AGES 5-7

Little Samurai is Guy’s Karate School's dedicated karate program for children aged 5–7 years.

At this stage, children are ready for more structured martial arts training while still benefiting from plenty of movement, activity and fun.

Our Little Samurai program introduces children to karate in a positive and encouraging environment while helping them develop discipline, confidence, fitness and the ability to work towards goals.

WHO IS LITTLE SAMURAI FOR?

Little Samurai is designed for children aged 5–7 years.

It is suitable for children coming from our Little Ninja program as well as children who are completely new to karate.

Whether your child is naturally confident or needs some encouragement to step outside their comfort zone, our instructors help them develop at their own pace.

WHAT WILL WILL THEY LEARN?

Children begin developing a stronger understanding of karate and martial arts fundamentals.

Training includes:

  • Karate stances
  • Punches and strikes
  • Kicks
  • Blocking techniques
  • Footwork and movement
  • Basic combinations
  • Coordination
  • Balance
  • Focus and concentration
  • Discipline
  • Respect
  • Goal setting
  • Confidence and perseverance

Children also begin learning how consistent practice leads to improvement.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A LITTLE SAMUARI CLASS?

Classes are structured around a combination of technical karate training, physical activity and age-appropriate challenges.

Children may work individually, with partners or as part of the group.

Classes can include warm-ups, karate techniques, combinations, drills, fitness activities, games and skill development.

Our instructors maintain clear expectations while keeping the environment positive, encouraging and enjoyable.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Karate is about much more than learning how to punch and kick.

Confidence – Children learn to believe in their ability.

Discipline – They learn to listen, practise and follow instructions.

Fitness – Regular training develops strength, coordination, flexibility and endurance.

Focus – Karate requires children to pay attention and remember movements.

Respect – Students learn to respect instructors, training partners and themselves.

Resilience – Children learn to keep trying when something is difficult.

Goal Setting – Working towards new skills and belt progression gives children achievable goals.

Self-Control – Students learn that martial arts requires control, not aggression.

DO THEY NEED ANY EXPERIENCE?

No.

Children do not need previous karate or martial arts experience to join Little Samurai.

New students are welcomed into the program and taught the fundamentals from the beginning.

Students who have progressed from Little Ninja can continue developing their skills without starting over.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THEY JOIN?

Little Samurai provides the

foundation for the next stage of your child's karate journey.

As they reach the appropriate age and skill level, they can progress into our Karate Kids program and continue through our junior ranks.

As they become older teen

agers, they can eventually transition into our Senior Karate program.

I wasn’t sure if I would be able to start karate in my late 30’s, but from the beginning Guy’s Karate made me feel welcome. I have greatly enjoyed the senior classes, and I have learned a lot in my first year. The instructors are excellent and generous with their time. I would recommend Guy’s Karate to anyone looking for a high-quality karate school in the Maitland area.

We couldn’t be happier with our choice in karate school for our son Kodi. He has SO much fun and he always looks forward to attending classes. On top of that it truly is a family friendly karate school. Best school in the area in my opinion.

My son was attending a different karate school prior to GKS, one which we weren't happy with. Since coming to GKS he has remained engaged, he participates in every session, gets excited to go and really has fun each time. The senseis want the best from their students. The lessons teach skills to help the students in every day life, not just karate. They are very family oriented and passionate.
